Get dynamic linker error "symbol not found: vasprintf" when trying to start Samba 2.2.8a on UnixWare 7.1.3
Keywords

Release
UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.3

Problem
I have downloaded Samba 2.2.8a from the SCO ftp site at:

          ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/unixware7/713/uw713up/

and have installed and configured it on my UnixWare 7.1.3
server. However, when I try to start Samba, it fails with
          the error:

          dynamic linker: /usr/lib/sambamb/sbin/smbd:
binder error: symbol not found: vasprintf; referenced
          from: /usr/lib/sambamb/sbin/smbd

          Killed

What do I need to do to start Samba 2.2.8a successfully?

CAUSE:
Samba 2.2.8a for UnixWare 7.1.3 requires a newer version
of the libc runtime shared library than is currently in
use on the system, in order to satisfy the dependency on
"vasprintf" by the Samba binary "smbd".

Solution
You can choose to do one of the following:

          1) Download and install Update Pack 2 for UnixWare 7.1.3

--------------------------------------------------------

Samba 2.2.8a is, at the time of this writing, packaged
within Update Pack 2 for UnixWare 7.1.3. If you are a
member of the SCO Update Service, you should obtain the
Update Pack 2 package set uw713up2 and install it.
uw713up2 contains an updated version of libc which will
resolve the dependency that the dynamic linker cannot
satisfy. For more information on the SCO Update Service,
how to obtain Update Pack 2, and a description of its
installation and contents, see ta 125168
"What is UnixWare 7.1.3 Update Pack 2 and where can I
          download it?".

          2) Download the latest UnixWare 7.1.3 Runtime Libraries

 -------------------------------------------------------

The latest version of the UnixWare 7.1.3 (UDK) Runtime
          Libraries is available at:

            http://www.sco.com/download

Choose "SCO Product Downloads", and then choose
"UnixWare 7.1.3 (UDK) Runtime Libraries" from
the download selection listing, and follow the remaining
instructions to complete the download. Install this
package by following the instructions available at the
download site. After installing this package, Samba
          should start successfully.
